100 undergraduates complete training program

One hundred third and fourth year undergraduates of Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) completed an ITB-Amec Foster Wheeler Oil & Gas Training Programme in Brunei in October 2015.

The students were undergraduates from ITB's Faculty of Engineering, School of Business, and School of Computing and Informatics. This year's ITB-Amec Foster Wheeler training programme was conducted by Amec Foster Wheeler Brunei industry experts Ben Alfrink, Guy Henderson, David Unsworth, Brian Walsh and Mark Gibbons.

The programme, which is now in its second year, is one of the collaborative activities agreed under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between ITB and Amec Foster Wheeler in November 2013. Running over a period of two Saturdays, students undertook six customised modules in engineering, project finance, procurement and contracting, project control, quality assurance and control, and project management.

The programme is designed bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industrial knowledge at university level and gives the students an overview of the possible career options they may wish to choose after graduating. The programmes also enable students to learn about contemporary industrial practices.

ITB Vice-Chancellor Associate Professor, Dr Hjh Zohrah Hj Sulaiman, presented the certificates to students in a ceremony on Saturday, 17 October. Also present at the ceremony was Mr Ravish Maqsood, Amec Foster Wheeler Program Director, ITB representatives, and training programme facilitators .

This is a fantastic initiative and a great way for our organisation to support the development of local Bruneian talent in the oil and gas industry.
